Bangladeshi students celebrate DU centenary in USA

Dhaka University Graduate Club, USA celebrated the centennial celebration of Dhaka University through a special event called “Reunion” last Sunday in Woodside, New York, USA.

The program started with a rally in Jackson Heights along with drums (dhols) and cheering from all registered members wearing t-shirts and hats. 

After the rally, graduates gathered at Gulshan Terrace- a party center in Woodside, as per media statement on Saturday.

The formal program started with Bangladeshi and American national anthems. At the venue, participants celebrated the event with a cake, reminisced about their campus life, and performed several cultural segments.

“The objective of the event and the club is to establish a friendly and cooperative relationship among the graduates in the USA, and that’s how we can help each other in every sector of life,” said by convener Md Masusul Islam. 

He added: “Dhaka University created a spirit of verity, aesthetic, and luminous future in our hearts. With the spirit of DU campus, we want to make a guild between us.”   

Consul General of New York Dr Monirul Islam was the chief guest of the program. 

He mentioned how he was eager to meet the students and share experienced and said: “I’m here to celebrate this event as an ex-DU student, not as a consul general.”

Dhaka University Graduate Club, USA published a magazine named Aparajoy composed by Silvia Saberin, Muhammad Shahidullah, and Mamun Rashid regarding the event. The magazine collaborated with the graduates' informative writings, poems, and stories. 

The event was hosted by Mohua Parvin and Mohammad Safi and joint conveners Muhammad Shahidullah, Kohinoor Mukta with many others, made the event successful.
